Napkin Rings and Utensils

I found this picture on the Pampered Chef website and thought that modifying utensils in some way might be easy and fun. But more than forks and spoons, I was thinking we should make napkins rings. They tend to run about $5 each, which seems super expensive for a napkin ring. But wouldn't it be cute to give someone matching napkin rings and serving utensils...and maybe embroidered napkins, all displayed as a set?

Also, I had a dream last night about stripping the "silver varnish" off of forks and repainting them in holiday metallic colors. While I don't actually think that would look nice or work, I think it was my subconscious reminding me that I forgot to post this last weekend. :)

Here are more napkin ring pictures for inspiration.
The bottom picture is of "chalkboard" napkin rings. Wouldn't it be fun to write people's name or decorate your napkin rings with chalk? It would be easy to make, too, if you could find cheap wood or plastic rings. There is a chalkboard paint that you can buy at hardware stores.

  1. I sould probably talk Peter (or perhaps his dad) into turning some wood rings on the lathe. They have lots of extra wood and scraps in the garage. If the rings have squared off ends, it shouldn't be too hard.

  2. I found cheap wood napkin rings at JoAnn's this weekend ($2 for a pack of 4 rings).

  3. What section of JoAnn's has wood napkin rings?
